NTT DATA Canada had a team running in the 2011 CIBC Run for the Cure. It was a cold rainy day but a lot of fun. Before the event there was a band playing leading us through warmups in the field. Then roughly 20,000 people all started the 5 km at the same time. It took a couple minutes for the pace to pick up and for people to spread out enough to increase the speed from a walk. There were lots of volunteers, musicians even cheerleaders to encourage us along the way. The section from 2-3km was uphill and us out of shape runners, struggled with that. Then at 3 km we started downhill which was huge relief.
As we crossed the finish line there was huge crowds cheering us on. It was really great to see so many people so positive about turning a miserable day into a really positive one. We got all a drink, bagel, yogurt and at one of the vendor booths an orange. We felt great about the run and decided we had earned a 2nd breakfast at Over Easy on Bloor. What a great way to raise money for cancer. We will be there next year!
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and education and awareness programs. This run raised $30M nationally in 2011.

Discussion Panel: Trade Processing 20/20 Vision

Tuesday, September 20, 2011, NTT Data is hosting a moderated panel discussion at Sibos Toronto 2011 titled Trade Processing 20/20 Vision. This will examine Straight Through Processing (STP) for the Financial Services Operations community and the discussion will take place at the NTT Data Booth (A102).
Over time, the inter-related directives of operational efficiency and regulatory compliance have driven the industry to eliminate process redundancy, minimize manual intervention, and automate as much activity as possible. Yet much remains to be done. As the industry emerges from recent and current market uncertainty, it is clear that STP and related concerns will continue to receive significant focus and attention, translating in due course to investment.
The panelists will respond to a series of questions with the intention of eliciting points of view regarding:
- Current Trade Processing Landscape
- Likely trends across Financial Services over the next 3-5 years
- 20/20 vision; what will the future look like?
The panel will comprise the following Subject Master Experts with deep insight into Operational issues and their resolution:
Mark P. Dangelo, Managing Principal Innovative Relevance: domestic and international financial services advisor and noted author of over 150 papers. Mark has also held senior roles with KeyCorp, Ernst and Young and Stanford Research Institute.
Ken Miller, Director, Keane Inc.; over 30 years experience as a financial services leader in buy and sell side firms and associated service providers; Ken has also held senior executive roles in IBM, Barclays, Bankers Trust and J.P. Morgan. Keane is part of the NTT DATA Group.
Mo Hirani, Executive Managing Director, Frontline Technology; accomplished financial services executive with a significant track record as a change agent. Mo has held executive leadership roles at Fidelity, NBCN, and Penson and has been profiled in CIO magazine.
The panel will be moderated by Ross Bennett, a senior director in NTT DATA Vertex, a core NTT Data company; Ross has a deep background in financial services and will ensure a fast paced, balanced discussion.
